The Best Restaurants, Cafés and Food Experiences in Amed, Bali

Amed is one of Bali’s most relaxed and unique spots. It’s quiet, with almost no traffic, far from the busy tourist centers — yet still has everything you need. Whether you’re here for a couple of days or a week, Amed is a great place to enjoy good food, ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere.

Although Amed is still a fishing village, the food scene is surprisingly well-developed. You’ll find authentic Balinese warungs, fresh seafood restaurants and beautiful cliffside dining at affordable prices. There are also plenty of Western and fusion options, vegan and vegetarian food, plus a few standout places offering Thai, Italian, Mexican and French cuisine.

Amed also has cozy cafés with strong coffee, homemade desserts and reliable Wi-Fi — great for digital nomads or anyone who wants to relax between dives. Some even offer sunset views, live music and a friendly mix of locals and travelers.

Top Warungs & Local Balinese Food in Amed

One of the best parts of visiting Bali is exploring authentic Balinese food, and Amed has some of the best local warungs in Bali. For anyone new to Indonesian cuisine, here are a few basics: rice is the heart of every meal (usually steamed white rice, though some warungs offer red or yellow rice); most popular style is buffet or “nasi campur” in Amed, where you choose rice with several side dishes. Indonesian food is often spicy, so if you prefer milder flavors, just ask for “tidak pedas” (not spicy).

Here are our favorite authentic Balinese restaurants near Bali Freedivers School – all within just a couple of kilometers(distance from Bali Freedivers office is noted in brackets):

Super Pedas (1.5 km) – Price level 1/4

Literally “very spicy.” A classic nasi campur spot from East Java (Banyuwangi) with a great choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian add-ons. Best time: 9–11am. They even have a coffee machine if you’re craving a cup after your meal.

Nasi & Beyond (1.1 km) – Price level 2/4

A cozy-style nasi campur with dishes from across Indonesia. Great for newcomers to Indonesian food in Amed since they offer both buffet and à la carte. Excellent juices, smoothies and machine-brewed coffee.

Warung Gayatri (2 km) – Price level 2/4

A small, traditional nasi campur with red rice as an option. Feels like a hidden warung from Central Java, tucked behind trees off the main road.

Warung Sari Asih (1.2 km) – Price level 1/4.

A real freedivers’ favorite for cheap, tasty local Balinese food in Amed. Famous for its Indonesian skewers (sate) made of tuna, pork or chicken. You can also order mie goreng (fried noodles), nasi goreng (fried rice), gado-gado (vegetable salad with peanut sauce), or cap cay (stir-fried vegetables).

Warung Mamasaga (1.5 km) – Price level 1.5/4

A comfort-food favorite for long-stayers. Mainly à la carte but also buffet options like ayam betutu (Balinese spiced chicken). We love their soto ayam (chicken soup), and tempeh or tofu with tomato garlic sambal (traditional Indonesian sauce).

Seafood & Dining with a View in Amed

Most people come to Amed for the ocean — diving, freediving, snorkeling or just the beach life. This little jewel on Bali’s east coast has it all, plus some of the best views of Mount Agung you’ll find anywhere.

Amed is also the perfect spot to enjoy fresh seafood, relax with calm waters and watch stunning sunsets with the majestic volcano in the background. Here’s our pick of seafood restaurants and places with truly amazing views:

Warung Hoky (price 1.5/4, 2 km from BFD)

Known for the best grilled fish in town, cooked the traditional way. The owner is a fisherman himself and even organizes fishing trips for guests, so the fish here is always fresh and simple. Ask for sambal matah, a Balinese sauce with torch ginger that goes perfectly with grilled fish.

Warung Melasti (price 3/4, 100 m from BFD)

Another legendary local warung famous for grilled fish — and yes, they’ll even cook it in the oven if you ask. The second-floor dining area has a one-of-a-kind view of Agung, almost like it’s knocking on the window. Don’t skip their brownies for dessert.

Green Lemon (price 2/4, 1 km from BFD)

A beachside café that’s become a favorite for spearfishermen to cook their catch. After years of preparing fresh fish, the local chef is a pro at grilling, sashimi cuts and other seafood dishes. It’s located just below the popular sunset bar Srikandi, so you can enjoy a golden-hour view while eating your fish.

Blue Earth Village (price 4/4, 4 km from BFD)

Probably the most famous place in Amed. Blue Earth has one of the best sunset spots, comfy seating for groups, and a menu blending Indonesian and Western favorites. Burgers, pizza, sophisticated salads and classic Indonesian dishes — all with a view of three mountains at once: Agung, Batur and Abang. A must-visit at least once during your stay.

Joli Best View & See You Again (price 3/4, 4 km from BFD)

Two “twin cafés” just below Blue Earth Village, both spacious and perfect for sunset. Joli, the owner of Joli Best View, was a fisherman before, so seafood dishes are excellent here. See You Again is known for its cocktails — ideal for lazy sunset watching with friends.

Vegan, Healthy & Fusion Cuisine

Amed attracts a lot of people who live an active, healthy lifestyle — freedivers, yogis, travelers. And naturally, all that activity needs healthy, nutritious meals to keep the energy up. That’s why the food scene here is evolving fast, with more and more healthy dining options popping up. Here are some of our favorites:

Good Stuff (price 4/4, 200 m from BFD)

One of the most popular restaurants in Amed with a big choice of healthy dishes. You can pick between salads, smoothie bowls, “make your own breakfast” and a few Indonesian dishes cooked with a Western touch. This spot also promotes sustainable and conscious living — besides eating, you can shop for local eco-products in their boutique.

Galanga (price 4/4, 5 km from BFD)

The first restaurant in Amed to focus on vegetarian and vegan food. A great example of how to blend Indonesian cuisine with healthy living and create something truly unique. You’re welcomed with a glass of jamu (a traditional Indonesian herbal drink) before choosing from their rich menu. The setting — bamboo huts surrounded by greenery — feels like someone’s home garden in Buleleng.

Rimba Café (price 4/4, 2.5 km from BFD)

The “little sister” of Galanga, and already a well-known lunch destination. Famous for its Western-style healthy and vegetarian dishes, plus desserts, coffee and tea collections. It’s also a cozy spot for a first date or some laptop time.

Paddy Rolling (price 3/4, 50 m from BFD)

One of our favorite lunch stops. This place combines light, healthy Indonesian dishes with Western meals that give you plenty of energy and nutrients. Think noodle soup or cashew salad, chicken parmigiana or Sundanese batagor, smoothie bowl or gado-gado — all at affordable prices. Plus, it has a nice view over the green hills of Amed.

Susie Café (price 3/4, 400 m from BFD)

A unique spot where you can actually learn to cook your own Balinese dishes. Whether you want to understand local recipes and ingredients or create your own healthy fusion, Susie’s is perfect. Design your own meal and take home some new cooking skills.

Western & International Restaurants

Amed’s dining scene has grown fast in recent years, making it one of the most diverse food spots on Bali’s east coast. Alongside traditional Balinese warungs, you’ll now find international restaurants offering everything from Italian pasta to Thai curries, Chinese dumplings, Mexican comfort food, French bistro classics and even the best burgers in town.

Italian Restaurants

La Bottega (price 3/4, 800 m): Located at EmOcean Resort, this Italian restaurant offers a cozy yet elegant setting and a great selection of pizza, pasta, vegetarian and seafood dishes. It’s a favourite spot for group dinners where conversations flow over authentic Italian flavours.

Gusto (price 4/4, 6 km): Amed’s most popular Italian restaurant – and famous for serving the best steak in town. Their pizza, gnocchi and salads impress even sophisticated foodies. Because it’s a bit further from central Amed, we suggest combining a visit here with a freediving session at Lipah Beach or Jemeluk Bay. Booking ahead is recommended, especially for dinner.

Trattoria Amed (price 4/4, 9 km): Located on the outskirts of Amed, this place is worth the trip if you’re diving the Japanese Shipwreck or Golden Rock. The lovely ocean-view setting makes dining here a special experience. Italian favourites and other Western dishes are available.

Asian Restaurants

Nat Nat (price 3/4, 1.5 km): The only place in Amed for authentic Thai food, served just the way you like it. Traditional Thai soups, pad thai, fresh salads and snacks are all here with real flavours. Spice levels go from 1 to 3 on the menu – but chili lovers can request level 5, 7 or even 11. Perfect for mid-sized groups or social dinners in the heart of town.

Long Happiness (price 3/4, 4 km): Amed’s go-to restaurant for authentic Chinese food. Loved by big groups and couples alike, this place offers a wide choice for meat lovers and vegetarians, including fantastic dumplings. Pair your meal with their high-quality traditional Chinese teas for the full experience.

Mexican: La Cocina Mexicana (price 3/4, 2 km)

If you’re into burritos, quesadillas, nachos and other Mexican comfort food, pay a visit to this tiny but vibrant spot. Owned and managed by a Mexican, it offers some of the best authentic Mexican food in Amed. Be prepared to wait in the evenings – it’s popular.
