Mindful Freediving Retreat in Amed

5 days of learning freediving through emotional intelligence and presence

What if learning freediving wasn’t only about technique, but also about understanding what happens inside you when you hold your breath, meet depth, and let go?

This four-day retreat in Amed invites you into freediving through a slower, more aware learning environment. Alongside a Level 1 course structure, the experience weaves in breathwork, mindful preparation, fun dives, sunset moments, and guided cold exposure. With accommodation, meals, and logistics fully arranged, you can arrive, settle, and give your full attention to the water — and to yourself.

More Than Just a Freediving Course

What this experience is really about

This retreat is for beginners and ocean lovers who want to learn freediving in a way that feels supportive, human, and integrated. No prior experience is needed — just basic swimming skills and openness to learning from both the body and the inner experience.

Set in Amed on Bali’s quiet east coast, the retreat takes place far from crowds, where calm conditions and a small group setting create a strong sense of safety, connection, and shared presence. Learning happens together — through conversation, reflection, and time spent both in and out of the water.

This retreat is for beginners and ocean lovers who want to learn freediving in a way that feels supportive, human, and integrated. No prior experience is needed — just basic swimming skills and openness to learning from both the body and the inner experience.

Freediving sessions are combined with simple emotional intelligence tools that help you recognize tension, fear, trust, and relaxation as part of the learning process. Instead of pushing through, you learn to notice, integrate, and respond — skills that support both safety in the water and balance in daily life. This way we invite you to experience a new approach to learn freediving — Mindful Freediving

Event Schedule

Day 1 - Arrival & Opening

We begin with the trip from the different parts of Bali toward Amed and welcome everyone at our beautiful Bali villa. After check in we gather for a shared lunch buffet in our home space. We open the retreat with an introduction to Mindful Freediving and Emotional Intelligence and we connect the water with inner awareness. The day flows into a sunset excursion to Lahangan Sweet and we close the first evening with BBQ dinner at the villa and our daily integration circle.

Day 2 - Breath, Theory & First Ocean Dive

We start the second day with breathwork and grounding practices and we prepare the body before moving into theory. We dive into freediving education and static apnea. After lunch we offer an ice bath as an optional guided element. In the afternoon we step into the ocean for our first line dive session and we close the water part with a short check in to integrate sensations. The evening rhythm brings us to authentic balinese dinner followed by guided meditation and again our daily reflection circle.

Day 3 - Liberty Peak & Coral Garden

We start our day early to enjoy our fundive at the Liberty Shipwreck for sunrise. After stretching at the beach we explore this mystic shipwreck together and take some underwater photos. After rest time we continue with freediving theory before we make our way to playful ocean time at Coral Garden, beach hangout at Lipah Beach and optional line dive session. We gather for sunset dinner at the beach and close our day with integration about what we experienced and what came up throughout the day.

Day 4 - Deep Integration

Day four is our consolidation day for body and emotions. We meet for another open water line dive session after our morning yoga and stretching so our systems can settle. Later this day you experience an AKAWA frequency session for somatic release and emotional integration. We enjoy for our last evening together a sunset dinner with amazing view to Mount Agung and we close the night with our final workshop and sharing circle.

Day 5 - Departure

The last morning is our gentle goodbye. We offer breakfast at the villa and return transfers begin. Integration continues beyond the time together and the sensations and skills travel home with you.

FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions)

Who Is the Mindful Freediving Experience For?

Mindful Freediving is a freediving retreat for those who want to learn freediving in a slower, more relaxed, and more aware way. It’s designed for people who feel drawn to the ocean and want a supportive, pressure-free environment where safety, presence, and wellbeing come first.

This experience is for you if you’re new to freediving or felt rushed in a standard beginner course, and if you want to better understand breath-hold, equalization, and fear without pushing through. If you enjoy combining physical practice with mindfulness, reflection, and integration, this retreat offers a grounded and beginner-friendly way to learn freediving with depth and clarity.

What is the difference between Mindful Freediving and a standard beginner freediving course?

In a standard beginner freediving course, the focus is often on completing skills and theory within a short timeframe in order to receive a certification. At Mindful Freediving , we take a different approach. While we include all the essential elements of a beginner freediving course — theory, static breath-hold practice, line diving, and safety skills — we slow the pace and create space to truly feel and understand what happens in the water. Freediving becomes not only a sport or technique, but also a tool for building awareness, self-trust, and presence, while learning how your body and nervous system respond underwater.

To support this integration, we use proven practices such as reflection and guided sessions including yoga, breathwork, and AKAWA. These tools help process the physical and emotional experience of breath-hold diving and make learning more sustainable. Progression in depth is guided by comfort and clarity, not by numbers or deadlines. This mindful freediving retreat is designed for those who want a safer, more embodied, and more meaningful way to learn freediving.

Do I need previous freediving experience to join?

No. You do not need any previous freediving experience.

We designed this retreat as a beginner friendly experience. We guide you step by step and adapt everything to your individual comfort. Listening to your body is part of the practice.

Is this an official freediving certification or a retreat?

It is both.

We include structured freediving education with theory sessions and open water dives. If you would like to receive an official beginner freediving certification, you can add it as an optional extra. If you prefer to join without certification and focus on the experience itself, that is completely fine as well.

What if I feel fear, stress, or have trouble equalizing?

This is very common concern and one of the main reasons we created Mindful Freediving.

We work with a pressure free and consent based approach and offer equalization support throughout the retreat. We also take short check ins after water sessions to integrate what you experienced. Fear and stress are treated as information, not something to push through or fix.

Who will guide me during the Mindful Freediving Retreat?

The retreat is guided by the Bali Freedivers team of certified and experienced freediving instructors, known for their mindful, human-centred approach to teaching. We stay fully present throughout the retreat, both in and out of the water, supporting your learning, safety, and overall experience at every step.

Training takes place in small groups, with a maximum of three participants per buoy, allowing for close supervision and individual attention. Each session is adapted to your pace and needs, always prioritising safety, awareness, and sustainable progression — so you can learn freediving with confidence, clarity, and trust in the process.
