Are you ready to dive into the world of underwater adventure? This beginner-friendly freediving course is a perfect place to start for those who want to learn how to hold their breath, dive safely, and have fun in the Ocean.

What you will learn ?

This introductory course, will provide you with a solid theoretical foundation, covering how your body adapts to increased pressure, the anatomy and physiology of equalization, and the most effective breathing techniques for freediving. You’ll also discover how gas exchange works in the body, why relaxation is crucial, and how to stay safe by understanding key concepts like hyperventilation, the breathing cycle, and rescue protocols.

During practical sessions, you’ll put theory into action through static breath-hold exercises, relaxation drills, and dry training for equalization. You’ll practice different freediving techniques—such as free immersion, constant weight diving, duck diving, and finning—that will help you move gracefully and efficiently underwater. You’ll also explore dynamic apnea, which focuses on various skills for underwater swimming on a single breath.

By mastering these theoretical principles and hands-on techniques under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you’ll develop a strong foundation for your future freediving pursuits. The confidence and skills you gain in this course will empower you to dive deeper, stay submerged longer, and truly appreciate the wonders of the underwater world—all while prioritizing safety and respect for the ocean environment.

(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions

What is freediving and how do I get started in Bali or Amed?

Freediving is all about diving underwater on a single breath—no tanks, no breathing underwater.

It’s a mix of relaxation, breath control, and specific diving techniques. If you’re thinking of starting in Bali, Amed is the perfect spot for beginners—calm, clear, and chill. Our 2-day, Level 1 Freediving course is beginner-friendly and will teach you all the basics: safety, breathing, equalization, and diving skills. No prior freediving experience needed.

Where in Bali are your freediving courses held?

Our freediving courses take place in Amed, one of Bali’s top freediving spots thanks to calm conditions, almost no current, and easy access to depths of 20, 30, 40, and even 50 meters—right from the shore

Our freediving school is based in a quiet street of Amed, Jl. Melasti, surrounded by some of the town’s best restaurants and hotels. Here, we run theory classes, gear fittings, and breathwork/stretching workshops. You’ll also find our ice bath setup here.

For line diving, we head just 3 minutes from the office, using moorings at 20m for beginners, and 35m–45m for advanced courses or deep coaching.

Outside of training, we run fun diving trips to world-famous sites like USAT Liberty Shipwreck, Japanese Wreck, Jemeluk Bay, and Lipah Beach, plus hidden gems like Golden Rock, Bunutan, Drop-off, Coral Garden, and even further afield to Gili Tepekong, Biaha (Candidasa), and Bon Dalem (Tejakula). Check more about different divesites in the area from our Fun Freediving with Bali Freedivers guide.

We also offer spearfishing charters to rumpons in Amed, Tejakula, and Singaraja, along with reef spearfishing in permitted areas.

What are the health benefits of freediving?

Once you learn freediving, you’ll have the freedom to explore underwater—coral gardens in Amed, Tulamben, and across Bali. But that’s just the beginning: freediving also improves your health, both physical and mental. On the physical side, it strengthens your lungs, improves oxygen efficiency, and tones your body without impact. On the mental side, it’s a game changer—teaching deep relaxation, focus, and how to manage stress. Many of our students say that after learning freediving in Amed, they feel calmer in daily life, sleep better, and think more clearly. The mix of breathwork, mindfulness, and ocean connection makes freediving one of the best activities for mental health and

What depths or skills can I reach after a beginner course?

In our beginner freediving courses, you’ll learn essential techniques and core freediving theory.

First, we cover pressure and equalization: buoyancy, proper weighting, and safe equalization techniques. You’ll study ear anatomy, learn effective maneuvers, and apply them during all four water sessions.

Next is breathing. You'll explore how breathing affects your mind and body—covering gas exchange, relaxation, and breathing techniques like belly and chest breathing, deconcentration, and more. We also include a breathwork and stretching workshop, where you’ll receive a custom breathing protocol created by our instructors.

Finally, we focus on safety. You’ll learn how to avoid risks, prevent accidents, and handle hypoxic situations like blackouts. We teach safe dive planning, how to combine scuba and freediving, and how to train safely after the course. You’ll also practice full in-water rescue protocols to help others if needed.
