FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
I’ve just passed my Level 1 course — is it too soon to take Level 2?
The only official prerequisite for a Level 2 freediving course is a Level 1 certification (such as Molchanovs “Wave 1,” SSI “Freediver,” or an equivalent from AIDA, PADI, or another agency). However, we recommend starting Level 2 only if you’re already comfortable diving to at least 20 m and have solid technique in key skills like equalization, duck diving, and free immersion. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy the full experience and gain maximum benefits from the 4-day training. If you’re still struggling to reach that depth, you might miss out on the core learning and breakthroughs that make a Level 2 freediving course so valuable.
If you’re Level 1 certified but not quite at that point yet, we suggest joining several Freediving Coaching first. We offer these as a package to help you refine your skills, gain more depth, and build the confidence you’ll need to get the maximum benefit from Level 2.
I’m certified with AIDA, but you offer SSI or Molchanovs — can I still join your Level 2 course?
Absolutely! We’re happy to welcome you to our Level 2 Freediving Course in Bali as long as you’re a certified Level 1 freediver with any recognized agency. For example, an AIDA 2 Freediver certification is equivalent to Molchanovs Wave 1 or SSI Freediver, so you’re fully eligible to join our advanced course.
To help you get the most out of the training, we recommend booking a coaching session beforehand. This gives you a chance to refresh your skills, and it allows our instructor to evaluate your current level so we can tailor the Level 2 course to your needs.
Will this course prepare me to be a safe and reliable buddy for more experienced freedivers?
Yes — the buddy system is one of the key features of our Level 2 Freediving Course in Bali. This part of the training builds the foundation you’ll need to dive safely with other certified freedivers without an instructor’s supervision. During the course, you’ll learn the theory behind providing safety for your buddy: what to discuss before a dive, how to recognize when to dive for your buddy, and how to swim alongside them correctly. All of this is then practiced in real freediving training conditions so you experience how it works in the water.
Level 2 gives you the skills and mindset to be a safe, responsible freediver and a supportive buddy. However, just like with any skill, becoming truly reliable takes more time and real-world experience. After the course, the more you practice freediving and safety techniques in different conditions, the more confident and dependable you’ll become as a freediving buddy.
Does Level 2 help improve my equalization and teach other advanced skills?
Yes — the Level 2 Freediving Course in Bali is designed to develop two of the most important advanced skills in freediving: mastering the Frenzel equalization technique and learning the art of freefall. In your beginner course, equalization was taught in a general way, often introducing both Valsalva and Frenzel. While Frenzel is more efficient and preferred, Level 1 doesn’t go deeply into advanced air management. In Level 2, you’ll refine your Frenzel technique, learn how to manage air more effectively, and understand the different “locks” used for deeper, smoother equalization.
Freefall is the second major skill of Level 2. From around 12 m, you’ll learn to use negative buoyancy to let your body sink naturally, making your descent more relaxed, efficient, and effortless. Together, these two skills will open the door to diving comfortably below 20 m and give you the foundation for continued progress in your freediving journey.
I’ve never tried the no-fins technique — is it required for Level 2 training?
No-fins freediving is one of the most beautiful and rewarding disciplines in the sport. It’s where you experience true freedom with almost no gear at all, moving underwater with just your body and your breath. This technique challenges both your body and mind in a unique way, and we love introducing students to it during our Level 2 Freediving Course in Bali.
Previous experience in no-fins is not required to join Level 2. In fact, among all certification systems, only Molchanovs includes no-fins as a mandatory skill for Level 2 certification. If you’re training under SSI, you can choose to skip no-fins, but we highly recommend trying it — most students discover they absolutely love it once they experience it for the first time.
