Mindful Freediving Course in Amed

4 days of learning freediving through emotional intelligence and presence

What if learning freediving wasn’t only about technique? But about creating a sense of safety in your body, so your nervous system can relax and learning can happen naturally?

This four day Mindful Freediving Course in Amed offers a slower, more supportive way to learn freediving. Built around a Level I course structure, the experience goes beyond skills and certifications.

You’ll learn in a small, close knit group (max. 6–9 participants), where shared experience and connection matter as much as time in the water. Each day is designed to balance guided dives with rest, different tools for reflection, and integration, allowing both the body and the mind to settle.

Set in Amed on Bali’s quiet east coast, the course takes place far from crowds, in calm conditions and clear water. The nearby shipwrecks and coral gardens provide iconic freediving spots, while the surrounding coastline, mountains and nature support slowing down and presence.

You have the freedom to choose your own accommodation and meals, allowing you to create a rhythm that suits you best. We’re happy to support you with recommendations and help you find options that fit your needs, so you can arrive, settle in, and focus fully on your experience in the water and with yourself.

What Is Mindful Freediving and What Makes It Different?

Mindful Freediving is a presence based teaching approach. You learn freediving not only as a sport, but as a way to understand how your body, mind and nervous system respond under water.

Thereby emotional intelligence is used as a practical framework throughout the course. Instead of pushing through tension or fear, you are guided through a simple process of recognising, understanding, expressing and regulating emotions, and applying this directly in your dives.

Another pillar of this approach is time. You are given space to learn, rest, and move at your own pace. When your nervous system feels safe, learning becomes easier and more natural.

Freediving becomes a direct mirror. The water gives immediate feedback about tension, focus and trust. Rather than chasing depth or performance, you learn to stay present and respond with awareness.

What you experience in the water is supported and integrated on land. Through guided reflection, sharing and simple awareness tools, you create a deeper understanding of your experience.

You learn in small and supportive groups, where connection and shared experience create a calm and safe learning environment. Guided fun dives allow you to apply what you have learned in a relaxed and pressure free way.

Event Schedule

Day 1 - Arrival & Opening

We meet in the morning at Bali Freedivers and take time to arrive, get to know each other and settle into the space. We begin with an introduction to Mindful Freediving and Emotional Intelligence, creating a shared understanding of how we will approach the coming days. After a first theory session, we enter the water for our first open water experience. In the afternoon, a guided visualisation and optional fun diving allow you to ease into the experience at your own pace. We close the day with a reflection circle and an optional group dinner.

Day 2 Breath Awareness and Integration

We begin the day with grounding and emotional awareness practices, preparing body and mind before moving into theory. You deepen your understanding of freediving and continue building confidence in the water during your second open water session. In the afternoon, an AKAWA session supports integration on a deeper level. We close the day with a reflection circle and optional time together in the evening.

Day 3 Exploration and Integration

We start with a guided inner journey, creating space to connect more deeply with your inner state before entering the water again. During your third open water session, you continue exploring breath, relaxation and trust. In the afternoon, we step into nature for a sunset hike, allowing the experience to settle in a different way. We close the day with a reflection circle and an optional group dinner.

Day 4 Closing and Transition

We begin early with a sunrise dive, experiencing the water in calm and quiet conditions. Afterwards, we gather for breakfast and a final sharing circle, taking time to reflect on your experience and what you take with you. The course closes around midday.

FAQs

For whom is the Mindful Freediving Course?

This course is for those who want to learn freediving in a calm and aware way. It is especially suited for beginners, or for anyone who felt rushed in a standard course and wants more time to understand breath hold, equalization and fear without pushing through.

If you enjoy combining physical practice with awareness, reflection and integration, this course offers a grounded and beginner friendly way to learn freediving with more depth and clarity.

What is the difference between this and a standard beginner freediving course?

In a standard beginner course, the focus is often on completing skills and theory within a short time to receive a certification. In this course, we include all core elements such as theory, line diving, safety skills and equalization, but we slow the pace and create space to really feel what happens in the water.

Freediving becomes not only a technique, but also a way to build awareness, self trust and presence, and to understand how your body and nervous system respond. We also use simple tools such as reflection, guided practices and integration sessions to support your experience. Progression in depth is based on comfort, not on numbers or deadlines.

Do I need previous freediving experience to join?

No, you do not need any previous freediving experience.

This course is beginner friendly and we guide you step by step. Everything is adapted to your individual comfort and pace.

Is certification included?

The course includes structured freediving education with theory and open water sessions. If you would like to receive an official beginner certification, you can add it as an optional extra. If you prefer to focus on the experience itself, you can also join without certification.

What if I feel fear, stress or have trouble equalizing?

This is very common and part of the learning process. We work with a pressure free approach and guide you step by step, including support with equalization. After water sessions, we take time to check in and integrate your experience. Fear and stress are not something to push through, but something to understand and work with.
